At Equity in Education, we are committed to fostering educational environments that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion for all students. Our consulting services specialize in addressing issues related to race, culture, language, disability, gender, and sexual diversity.
Closing persistent achievement gaps that exist between different groups of students, such as those based on race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability, or English language proficiency is hard work. An important first step in that work is ensuring that these students feel a sense of belonging in school. A truly equitable education system values diversity and recognizes the unique strengths and contributions of every student. It fosters an inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported. This benefits not only individual students but also entire communities. When all students feel seen and safe, they are better prepared to contribute positively to society, participate in the workforce, and become engaged citizens. This, in turn, strengthens communities.
About our founder
Equity in Education partners with teachers, schools, and districts to help streamline the process of developing equitable classrooms. Founded by Gina Francalancia-Cancienne, M. ed., Equity in Education centers around her passion for students from special populations. You may have seen our presentations at conferences around Colorado including Colorado Education Association's (CEA), Colorado Association of Gifted and Talented (CAGT), Innovative Education of Colorado (InnEdCo), International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and Colorado Council of International Reading Association (CCIRA).
Gina is a 2023 ISTE award winner for her innovation in educational technology. She spends as much time, if not more, attending conferences as presenting at them. She is a true life-long learner and loves to hear new ideas about how to engage students, methods for making classrooms equitable for all, and the exciting changes technology and AI are making to education.
In her spare time, you can find Gina advocating, educating, and volunteering! She participates in National POW/MIA Recognition Day. She enjoys working with Global Down Syndrome Foundation, National Down Syndrome Congress, Special Olympics, and GLSEN.
Equity in Education was conceived from my educational passions. I got into education for several reasons but I quickly developed a soft spot for the students on the fringes of classrooms. Students from special populations are in every grade, in every room, and sometimes become invisible. Teachers are rarely provided with the permission and resources needed to make their curriculum and lessons truly inclusive. Although there are many districts that provide some type of professional development centered around equity, they don’t always offer skills or ideas that teachers can take directly to their classrooms. Educators simply don’t have enough time or energy to reinvent the wheel, they need things they can use in their classrooms and curriculum that already exist. I have collected research based resources that I have either seen in action with my own eyes or I have used in my own classroom. These have been used to develop ideas that can lead to immediate integration in classrooms, schools, and throughout districts. My hope is to provide not only a starting point but continued support as educators work towards an equitable environment for all of their students.
