Equity in Education
Equity Defined: noun
the quality of being fair or impartial; fairness; impartiality:
something that is fair and just:
the policy or practice of accounting for the differences in each individual’s starting point when pursuing a goal or achievement, and working to remove barriers to equal opportunity, as by providing support based on the unique needs of individual students or employees.
Why is equity important? No student deserves to feel like they don't belong in their school or in their classroom. By moving from equality to equity we are setting students up to be empowered to use their unique voices to change the world! The future of the world is in our classrooms NOW and the education they are provided will have a direct effect on the future we will all be living in.
Does your space meet the needs of these diverse learners? Have you taken the time to look through the lens of a language learner, a disabled person, a gifted mind, an individual from the non-dominant culture, or someone who identifies as gender or sexually diverse? What about through a trauma informed lens? Does your curriculum meet the needs of all these students? What about your classroom or school set-up and decor?
At Equity in Education, we are committed to fostering educational environments that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion for all students. Our consulting services specialize in addressing issues related to race, culture, language, disability, gender, and sexual diversity.
